We like us some AMOLED goodness as much as the next [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], but alas, the latest LG handset to rock the super-crisp display technology isn't going to be headed to Yankee shores anytime soon. South Korean handset manufacturer, LG, has released the LG SH150A in their homeland - you know, the magical place where feature phones routinely rock 7.2Mbps HSDPA and DMB connectivity.
The LG SH150A has a leg up on the highly-connected competition with the AMOLED display that offers incredible clarity and power-savings. Oh, and let's not forget the requisite HSDPA (7.2Mbps, naturally), DMB, 2 megapixel camera, integrated media player, and a host of other features that we'll never see.
FCC unveils the LG Chocolate replacement - LG VX8610 for Verizon
We've been waiting for LG to drop the LG Chocolate replacement on us for some time now, and it looks like we in for a new flavor of Chocolate soon. The FCC has revealed documents showing the LG VX8610 as the planned successor to the uber-popular LG Chocolate.
The LG VX8610 slider should rock a trackball, but that's about all we know about the new Verizon-bound handset. We'd like to give you a glimpse of what the LG VX8610 will look like in the flesh, but Verizon decided to file particularly vague diagrams with the FCC. We'll keep an eye out for actual Verizon LG VX8610 shots.
Hands-on video with the LG KF700 at Mobile World Congress 2008 Barcelona
The LG KF700 touchscreen slider made its appearance at Mobile World Congress 2008 and we had a chance to briefly play with the device. The pseudo-haptic feedback is helpful, but it generally reminds us of how lacking these vibration-feedback mechanisms have so far turned out. The entire device vibrates to indicate a button press, rather than localizing the vibration to the particular button that has been pressed. Helpful? Barely. One of the key draws of the LG KF700 is the full-body touchscreen.
Unfortunately, we're still seeing the old-school pressure-sensitive touchscreen, but hey, at least its huge. Menu and UI operation is intuitive and fast (again marked by pseudo-haptic feedback) and the slide-out keypad is a definite plus.
It's too bad this thing is a tri-band jobby, intended to pull duty in Europe. Otherwise, we might have some fun playing with this thing every now and then.
Quick video-look at the LG KF510 and the Magic Touch Interactive UI
Yea, aside from that thinnish slider form-factor and the 3 megapixel camera, the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]'s relying on some gimmicky interactive UI, that they're calling the "Magic Touch," to push sales. The area under the display is touch-sensitive and lights up in different configurations depending on the phone function - much like the Samsung Soul.
However, in practice, the "Magic Touch" menu doesn't change its configuration all that significantly. That is, unless you consider some lame button animations a real configuration-change. Take a look. Granted, we didn't really delve into the other functions of the handset, but it unlikely that a 3 megapixel camera could help us feel less underwhelmed with the LG KF510.
You know the saying, "As some go out, others come in." That's exactly what LG is thinking - to take advantage of the struggling American handset maker. When asked whether Motorola's poor performance is seen as a chance for the South Korean company, LG's chief executive Nam Yong said, "Yes, we'll increase our market share sharply!" No direct answer, but you can clearly feel the point. And while we do support LG's efforts to grow it's handset business — after all they keep releasing both low-end and some very interesting mid to high-end devices like Viewty and Venus — we would still like to see MOTO recovering. Its Q9 family of smartphones as well as the Z10 look promising, and who knows what else they're working on at the moment (Z12?).
In the meantime, the world's fifth-largest mobile phone maker (LG) holds 7.2% of the global mobile phone market and plans to sell 100 million units this year. Will they succeed? This "game" is getting more interesting every day. We'll watch closely and report back to you…
[size=4]LG KF750, KF240, KF300 to join its fashion brothers from LG's KF series
[size]
LG keeps pushing new devices to expand its market share. But it's not just low-end market LG is targeting anymore. On the contrary, following their successes with the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Anyway, LG is reportedly working to introduce new members to its KF family of devices. Earlier we saw the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], and hopefully soon enough, we'll see them introducing the KF750, KF240 and the KF300.
The first model (pictured above) should reportedly come with the 5 megapixel camera, VGA camera for video calls, 160 MB of internal memory and of course the microSD memory slot. Interesting enough, the KF750 already started selling on a Romanian auction site, so it's kinda fair to argue we'll see it introduced sooner rather than later.
As for the LG KF240, that one may be officially announced this week. It's a stylish music phone with a 2 megapixel camera and at least initially, LG will sell it to people living in Latin America, China and other Asian countries.
Finally, the LG KF300 phone is also in the works but at the moment we have no idea what it's all about. As soon as we get more information about it, we'll post it - have no doubt about it.
[size=4]LG Glimmer coming to Alltel: 2.8 inch touch screen, EVDO and sexy
[size]
If the ad above prove to be legit, Alltel will rolling out the new LG Glimmer in the near future. The new phone has a design elements from two other LG models, Shine and Viewty, and will probably be one of the prettiest phones in Alltel's portfolio. As for the specs, there's a 2.8" capacitive touchscreen, numeric slider, 2 megapixel camera with flash light, EV-DO, Bluetooth and microSD slot. Sounds cool, especially for Alltel which is usually among the last carriers to get the cool phones. Let's hope we won't have to wait an eternity to see the Glimmer out.
