Man buys Nokia, Nokia doesn't work, Man wants replacement, Nokia says no, Man sues Nokia, Man Wins
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]
Nokia isn't known for their customer care and I wonder how much higher their 40% market share would be if they only cared more about their users, but a man in Singapore had enough of getting the reach around that he sued Nokia.
Nokia never showed up to court so he went to their Singapore headquarters, they still refused to cough up the dough or fix his handset, man comes back with an officer, he gets what he wanted.
Is all this bad press worth $1,018.43? I mean seriously, this one guy who had the balls and patience to stand up to a multibillion dollar multinational company over a faulty product, while most other people would have just given up, has tarnished Nokia's name in Singapore and the world really.
I was just having this conversation with a few Nokia friends at a bar in Tampere less than 6 hours ago. Lenovo replaced my old ThinkPad X40's motherboard even though I was 2 months out of warranty, Samsung replaced the engine inside my DLP HDTV back in the states even though I was out of warranty by between 1 to 2 months, a pair of Koss headphones I only use when working out finally kicked the bucket after nearly 4 years of use, one email later and they asked me for an address to ship a new set. These experiences build loyalty, I doubt this guy is going to buy a Nokia again, which isn't really a shame, the sad part is he is going to tell all of his friends this story.

Nokia and Qualcomm agree to stop beating each other up, for a few months
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]Nokia and Qualcomm are locked in multiple court cases that have hundreds of millions of dollars in patent infringement potentially going to either of them.
They've been fighting for over a year and a half and like all professional boxers who reach the last roung, they're tired. This doesn't mean the fighting is over, in July there will be another court case in Delaware and this time the brass knuckles, flame throwers and nerve gas will make their way into this UFC battle to be aired on Pay Per View.

Nokia invests $1.55 million in Japanese image processing software company
Nokia Growth Partners, the VC's internally who make sure Nokia is prepared for the future, have poured $1.55 million in Morpho, a Japanese company that specializes in using software to enhance both image and video capture in mobile phones. [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] is a solution that requires absolutely no new hardware, yet gives image stabilization as seen below. [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], which Sony Ericsson implemented in their [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. No-key Nokia X-SIM unlocks Nokia phones to work on any network; Warranty stays intact
Here's a neat solution for unlocking a number of Nokia phones which doesn't require any software-based hacking. Rather, similar to iPhone unlocking solution - [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], the No-key Nokia X-SIM uses (actually it is) a special SIM card that unlocks the phone to work on any network.
The working theory of the X-SIM is that each phone operates on an identification system. The mobile phone checks if the SIM card matches the operator and if so, it opens. The X-SIM card gives a signal to the Nokia mobile phone simulating the original SIM card, so phone never really unlocks - it just allows the user to operate in any network. It can still maintain the original warranty and can also install any of the latest firmware from Nokia without problems. So, there is no risk unlocking and no risk of doing any harm to the phone.
According to [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] which sells the SIM card, the X-SIM has been tested on a number of Nokia phones, including such models as E65, N73, N95, N95 8GB, 6500, and others. However, they are warning the No-key Nokia X-SIM may not work on all operator's networks in the world. Still, their solution costs $31.69 and if it works, you'll save much more in the next 6 months by using some other network's voice plan… Full release is available from [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and Nokia N78 preview
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]Rafe Blandford from All About Symbian posted [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] based on his limited time with the device at the Mobile World Congress. Eldar from Mobile-Review however [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and posted his initial, Russian only, thoughts on it. Give it a few days to 1 week for the translation to occur.
Likewise since Eldar has the N78 he can also play around with S60 3.2 and has thus [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...].
The last paragraph simply states, rough translation of course:As a result, being repulsed from the base functionality FP2, it is possible to assert that today this is one of the most powerful platforms on the market for smartfonov, and soon its domination nothing threatens, nothing analogous "from the box" none of the producers thus far propose can.
Basically S60 3.2 kicks tons of ass and no smartphone platform comes close to competing with it.

Nokia N78 without WiFi spotted on FCC
It seems Nokia will be launching the crippled version of the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] at some point in the future. Apparently, the N78 without WiFi support has been spotted at the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. And while we think there could be market for a decent camera smartphone without WiFi (look at the N73), somehow we don't fully understand why the Finish giant bothered pushing the device with non-American 3G radios and without WiFi through FCC.
Anyway, like it or not, we may see the WLAN-less N78 hitting the markets later in the year. Our U.S. readers, look away — you don't want this N78 for sure.

Pictures: Nokia 6650 in real life and more specifications come out
Engadget is in Germany right now covering CeBIT and took the time to take [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], a device I'm hoping we will see unlocked. The picture of the devices above is on top of a piece of paper that has some information about the specifications, which Nokia still hasn't released to the public, most interesting is the huge 1500 mAh battery and thin 16.2 mm profile. Other tidbits include the relase date: June 2008 and the dimensions plus weight: 99.7 x 47.3 x 16.2 mm at 112 grams.
Small Update: The 1500 mAh battery is the BP-4L as seen [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and the phone is the 6650, not the 6550, good eye Fernando.
