Sony Ericsson patents drag and drop Bluetooth file transfer
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]Anyone with an uncrippled phone knows how handy Bluetooth is, but the experiance isn’t really that intuitive. “What is your Bluetooth ID?” and “The passcode is 1234,” shouldn’t have to be how we talk about technology. The next version of Bluetooth that incorporate NFC (near field communication) will make it as easy as touching two devices to transmit files, but Sony Ericsson is trying something even more interesting.
Imagine your friend is standing right in front of you. He touches a file with his finger and flicks it in your directions. Your device then asks you if you accept the file and boom it appears on your handset. Sounds like something out of Star Trek, but actually it is a Swedish-Japanese innovation.

Sony Ericsson concept phone with full-sized USB port
The image above does NOT present an actual phone - rather it’s a concept device designed by Vincent Palicki. I’ve no doubt Vincent is cool guy — after all he’s thinking the way (I believe) we all do. Yeah, we hate BOTH mini and micro USB ports, pop and all other cables. Why wouldn’t handset manufacturers made a device that has a standard USB port built inside. It doesn’t sound that hard, does it? C’mon folks, cables annoy us, big time…

Now we have the upcoming M610i smartphone, which prototype we already saw [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. As far as we know, the M610i will only add a WiFi on top of the M600i’s functionality and most probably more available RAM. That being said, I don’t quite understand why we Sony Ericsson still hasn’t announced it.
Anyway, here’s the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] for those that need a reason to believe…

Sony Ericsson K660i, W890i demo videos
With the recently announced [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] models, Sony Ericsson aims to bring the mobile Internet and music on the go (respectively) to the modern youth. Not that their other devices can’t do that — practically every single phone that costs around $200 unsubsidized can play music nowadays — it’s just that these two are sort of optimized for the mentioned purposes. Anyway, we’ve already covered both devices and now’s time for the demo videos. Enjoy!

Sony Ericsson's patent application for dual-sliding QWERTY-keyboard and numeric keypa
Dual-sliders are [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. Having a dedicated numeric keypad in addition to a full-QWERTY keyboard is just so convenient. And, it seems, Sony Ericsson is giving some serious consideration to bringing that convenience to a future handset. In their patent application, entitled “Two-way sliding mobile terminal,” Sony Ericsson reveals plans to use what looks like a pop-out mechanism that features a full-QWERTY keyboard layout as well as a numeric keypad. The keyboard pops out lengthwise to become a keyboard. Holding the handset vertically, the keypad pops out widthwise.
This actually looks like a way better alternative to the dual-sliding setup that we’re [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. By combining the keyboard and keypad onto a single pop-out slab, Sony Ericsson’s future dual-sliding jobbies should be slimmer than the current dual-sliding offerings. We sure hope the Japanese-Swedish company will actually apply this concept to a handset in the near-term.

Sony Ericsson files patent application to bring gesture control to cameraphones
Now this is one interesting patent application. Sony Ericsson may be planning to up the ante on cameraphones if their newest patent application comes to fruition. High-end cameraphone offerings from the likes of Nokia and Sony Ericsson already boast impressive performance as far as point-and-shoot digi-cams are concerned, and Sony Ericsson seems to be brewing a unique feature for its cameraphone lineup. The [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] a method by which simple hand-gestures could be used to control the cameraphone’s features - taking pictures, answering phone calls, and even controlling music playback with a not-so-proverbial flick of a finger.

The patent involves the use of some clever software that would endow image-recognition powers to a Sony Ericsson cameraphone. The software would be used to recognize hand-gestures as a control-method for various phone features. As long as the phone is powered on and has a line-of-sight to your hand (from a table or a tripod), the user can issue a command to take a picture or start playing an MP3 track from afar.
Furthermore, the phone can be connected to your DLNA home-network to control your TV, PC, audio system, etc. Imagine that - controlling your home-theater system by waving your hand through the air.
As patent applications go, this one may or may not see the light of day, but we’re all crossing our fingers in hopes that it will make it into Sony Ericsson’s production line.

Sony Ericsson PSP phone should be the dual-sliding device!
My impressions are that Muhummad-oli from [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] was right on target when he designed this concept device. I do agree with him that the rumored PSP phone should be the dual-sliding device just like the Nokia N95 or Samsung i450. Just in this case, on slide down user would use a numeric keypad for making phone calls and texting, and on the slide up the gaming control keys would reveal and he/she could start playing games. This way the device would keep the “PSP experience” while seamlessly integrating with the phone functionality. Kinda neat, don’t you think?
Plus let’s not forget that according to Muhummad-oli, the device would also sport the 3.2 MP camera, media player and the wireless Internet connectivity… Check out the full concept design after the jump. UPDATE: We have one more image now.
