JGUI brings the look of Windows Vista to your Windows Mobile smartphone
If you’re like us, you’re already tired of Windows Mobile 6.0’s interface. Sure, it was spiffy and exciting for a while, but our attention span (as far as our mobile phones are concerned) is brutally short. Suffice it to say that it doesn’t take all that long to become bored with the latest and greatest tech around these parts.
It’s a good thing there’s the JGUI Vista Smartphone Interface for Windows Mobile Smartphones. The Vista look-alike interface basically replaces your Windows Mobile Smartphone’s homescreen with some Sidebar-enabled eye-candy. That’s right, you get Sidebar functionality with gadgets - and there’s a bit of Aero in the taskbar. JGUI Vista Smartphone Interface is designed for WinMo Smartphones (non-touchscreen) handsets with landscape-oriented displays - think, BlackJack and Motorola Q. There’s also a PocketPC version available for download, but we don’t have a WM PPC device with a landscape display to give it a run-through.
Grab the download [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. If you decide to give JGUI Vista Smartphone Interface a whirl on your WinMo PPC, drop us a line and let us know how you like it.

Windows Mobile update to add higher-resolution widescreen display support
Well, it’s about time. We’ve been stuck with our 320 x 240 WinMo resolutions for so long that it’s almost surprising that Microsoft has added higher-resolution widescreen support. We say almost because the bumped-up resolution support is pretty much the most logical and simplest feature update that Microsoft could have included in the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] - so the update took us by surprise, but Windows Mobile 6.0 is overdue for this kind of update. Regardless, dynamic (resolution changes between landscape and portrait views) resolution outputs are going to support a host of display formats - from tiny displays with 240 x 240 resolutions to huge widescreens with DVD-like resolutions of 480 x 800.
Accelerometers will be used to detect portrait or landscape orientation changes, prompting automatic resolution changes (dynamic) to match the screen’s orientation (much like the iPhone). And this is just about the simplest update that’s due for the new WinMo6 - we can’t wait to see what the rest of the updated Windows Mobile 6.0 will look like!

Windows mobile - Let the storm begin!
Dec 11, 2007
Smartponeware opens new department for Windows Mobile development. We have developed our own library called "Storm" and first applications based on it. Benefits of all Smartphoneware Windows Mobile applications based on "Storm": - We use native code only (C++ and Win32 API). We don't use any managed code (e.g.: .NET, VB, MFC). This allows us to make the fastest and smallest in size applications possible which are not hungry for resources and do not depend on specific versions of .NET, etc installed on user device.
- Users can expect all our applications to be fully scalable and to work on all possible screen sizes and orientations, FLICKING FREE controls, theme aware, support keyboard devices.
- Our applications support both pen based input and keyboard based input. Also our applications are designed in such a way that you can operate them with one hand only (even PocketPC based devices).
- We have 1 executable only that supports both PocketPC and Smartphone platforms.
- Supported platforms:
Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC
Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone
Windows Mobile 6 Classic (Pocket PC)
Windows Mobile 6 Proffesional (Pocket PC)
Windows Mobile 6 Standard (Smartphone)
- We do not plan to support earlier versions of WinCE as our applications are especially designed for styles guides introduced with Windows Mobiles 5 and we use special features available from WM5 to give our applications platform native look and behavior.
- From developer point of view our system of classes is very similar to Nokia S60 with Application, View, Dialog and Controls classes. With our system of classes ready we have quite fast developing cycle even using native code purely, so many high quality applications are scheduled or already in development and will come shortly.
Let the storm begin!

Microsoft admits Windows Mobile stinks, working hard to fix it in WM 7 and 8
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...][Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] sat down with someone from Microsoft to talk about the future of Windows Mobile and why in its current state the mobile OS is a steaming pile of you know what. The Redmond based company admits that placed an abundant emphasis on the business and enterprise side of the platform, but completely forgot about the consumer. Times are changing however and the focus towards improving user experience is now the primary goal of the company. From a retooled internet explorer browser, to improved messaging and contact handling, there are plenty of details to check out [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. I want to like Windows Mobile, it has the potential to be a fantastic operating system due to the tight Windows and soon to be tight Live integration thanks to the brilliant Ray Ozzie, but they are not there … yet.

Hop-on launches CDMA/GSM HOP2001 Windows Mobile smartphone
Now this is weird. The company that specializes in mobile gambling technologies and was also known as a disposable cellphones maker not long ago released a new Windows Mobile smartphone. And while we guess they’ve outsourced the manufacturing to some Chinese or Taiwanese OEM, it’s interesting to note they’ve made sure their new smart baby, called [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...], can work on both CDMA and GSM networks. To be fair, we see no EV-DO in the specs, but HSDPA is there, meaning that for the full download speeds, you better have an account with AT&T. In addition, the HOP2001 also packs the large 2.8″ QVGA touchscreen, 3 MP camera with 10x zoom and autofocus, WiFi, stereo Bluetooth 2.0, 256 MB Flash ROM and 128 MB SRAM, built-in GPS receiver, and of course the microSD expansion slot. Quite an impressive specs for the new entrant in the smartphone market. I wonder will some carrier pick it up…

FunContact 2.0 to Blow Your Mind!
FunContact 2.0 to Blow Your Mind!
Farewell to default Windows Mobile contacts
28 December, 2007 – VITO Technology releases a new version of FunContact. Managing contacts on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC has become easier and more fun! New features on top of finger friendly and stylish interface make FunContact a truly irreplaceable contact manager. Now even more visual effects!
The new sliding out keypad allows you to easily dial numbers missing from your contacts. All it takes is tapping the red arrow, and here you are dialing the number you need. T9 contacts look up is also possible on this keypad like on smartphones.
New version of FunContact provides its own contact editing. It has become possible to edit or add new contacts without going to the default WM contacts. Forget about default contacts with its old-fashioned looks and awkward editing. Now you can easily edit your contacts right from FunContact, delete, add new fields, etc. You’ll find out that editing contacts is fun as well!
The calls in call history are now grouped by the type of calls (missed, incoming or outgoing calls) and by the date. All types of calls for the same contact are grouped separately for each day. This way you will see only one record in the list even if you got several calls from a certain contact: only the last one is displayed.
Once you started using FunContact it’s difficult to come back to the default contacts. You simply enjoy managing your contacts with finger. Clinton Fitch, the well known MVP says: "Having used FunContact for several weeks now it is hard to see myself not using it going forward. It has made contacting those on my contact list quicker and far easier with the ability to SMS or e-mail them with only a tap or two versus using the native Windows Mobile applications."
FunContact is available for $19.95 at [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] and [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. Look out for 25% HOLIDAY DISCOUNT! Current users upgrade for free.
VITO Technology Inc. is known for its high-tech products in the field of Windows Mobile and Symbian software, GPS navigation and custom projects. Introduced in the present article FunContact is a touch oriented contact manager for Windows Mobile Pocket PC.

Pointui makes your touchscreen enabled Windows Mobile device look cooler than ever
Pointui is everything but a first homescreen application we’ve seen. As a matter of fact, following the iPhone launch, there were suddenly quite a few such applications on the market that want to add that iPhone look and feel to the Windows Mobile platform. That being said, I guess that’s the core strength of Microsoft’s mobile OS — the ability to customize it better than any other mobile OS.
Anyway, the folks behind Pointui made sure you’ll love your smartphone or PDA more after you install their app. It kinda reminds on the iPhone’s menu system, yet manages to keep the originality. As a matter of fact, I find some things to look even better on Pointui. But, at the end — and as always — it’s a matter of personal preferences…
What follows is the 5-minute long video demonstration after the jump. In addition, you may want visit [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] from where you can grab the application for free. Yap, it’s it costs zero bucks, although if you like the application - you can always donate them few bucks…

Quartics Mobile2Display: Connect your phone to your TV, wirelessly
Quartics created a technology that allows Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices to connect to displays wirelessly. No information yet as to the frequencies used, range, price points, basically we don’t know anything except that [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]. This is useful, but ultimately futile. I have this whole theory about IP connected displays taking over the world, but I’ll spare you that dribble and instead offer you the alternative, more short term reality, there will be [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Microsoft launches Windows Mobile Training website
Here’s the scenario. You just got the Windows Mobile device and you’ve no idea what your phone can do and have no-one to call to explain you all the nitty-gritty details. Or, you’re thinking about buying a Windows Mobile powered smartphone, but are unsure whether that’s the right way to go.
Well folks, Microsoft’s thinking about you. Actually they’re thinking (like any other company) how to increase their bottom line and educating the consumers — both individuals and businesses — is one of the pieces of the puzzle. That being said, they’ve launched the [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] website where both novice and advanced smartphone users can learn something new. There’s tons of content available, including how-to demos, courses, documents, sales tools, presentations and much more. Honestly, the site is so content rich and useful that I think all platform developing companies should have something similar. This is not to say that Symbian or some other mobile OS developer doesn’t have something like this, it’s just that Microsoft really did a great job producing and organizing all the content on the site. Anyway, here’s the link and see for yourself why I like it so much, even though I don’t own a single Windows Mobile device.
NOTE: If you don’t have a Windows Live account (Passport), you’ll have to register to access the site.
