Nokia has announced the N96, its new flagship in the Nseries, with quad band reception, DVB-H (digital TV), 16GB of internal flash memory and microSD expansion. It runs S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2. Plus all the top end specs from the existing N95 8GB. For thoughts, photos and specs, read on.
Looking much like a bigger brother to the N81 than to the N95 8GB, the N96 still has the specs to go straight in at the top of Nokia's Nseries line-up. The inclusion of DVB-H, a full 16GB of flash memory and a microSD slot take it significantly above the N95 8GB, with all other specs (including GPS, Wi-Fi, 5mp camera, 2.8" screen, etc.) the same.
Having used the N81 for a while, I have a few concerns over build materials and screen contrast in bright light, hopefully we can report more on this in the next few days.
The inclusion of S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 was a given, of course, one of the first devices to have the tweaked S60 interface with more obvious multi-tasking. Flash Lite 3 (with Flash video) is here from the outset of course, just as in the latest N95 8GB firmware.
As some bloggers have noted, the presence of a smallish 950mAh battery is also a concern, let's hope there are significant optimisations under the hood to ensure that the problems experienced with the original N95 don't recur...
Hands-on comments from Rafe will follow in due course. On with the specs:

hi! im just curious about this: DVB-H TV broadcast receiver. does it mean that we could watch real-time tv with this like the n77 phone? or its just an upgrade of their tv out? also, is it just flash? not xenon flash like in their n82 phones? geez nokia makes a lot of phone units but not all are packed with great features.. why are they doing this? is this their marketing strategy? i hope they could create a phone that has all the n series great fetures.. even it if would cost me a thousand bucks for it. lol. The only real impressive thing about this phone is the 16 GB + expandable memory. Besides that, we're looking at the same thing over again. The keys are not even raised for proper feedback and in all honesty, the N958GB has a better look. For me to sell my 8GB for a new phone it needs to have a keyboard and/or touch screen with great animation like the X1 or iphone. These new nokia phones somehow look quite delicate and unstable .... specially this N96 looks lyk it`ll break into 2 pieces once fallen down !!. My last but not least concern of da phone is the battery life, Standard battery, Li-Ion 950 mAh (BL-5F) what the hell is this the same N95-1 battery? the reason I sold my N95-1 to get N95 8G is because of the Battery. So screw that, I will pass on this one.

Absolutely the same as N77! Maybe that'll be one of the main reasons I'll go for N96 when it'll be out

Take in your calculation that every device have his power manager. 950mAh not the same on n95 or this one for example. Believe me, must be better this than previous ones. Will see.
