“ShakeMe” executes various functions by simply shaking your phone. This seems to faciliate daily working with a phone a lot, just shaking the phone instead of pressing a key.
Anyway, as Samir’s applications are always very interesting, it’s clear for me to tell you about the application itself and my thoughts about it. I must say that the appelation “Alpha” version is chosen correctly: the application is the buggiest one ever released by Samir, he has still a lot of work to do.
Let’s have a look at the application itself first.
ShakeMe:
Just after launching “ShakeMe”, you can see that Samir didn’t spend much time on a real UI yet. The nice main menu with the “Settings” page and so on can only be accesed through the options menu, not very comfortable.
“ShakeMe” has four different “Modes”, you can also call them the functions which are executed when you shake the phone. They don’t work parallely what could be made possible by executing one with a certain gestue. Maybe this feature will be implemented later, who knows.
The available modes are “Key Lock” to lock the keys when shaking the phone, enable/disable “Bluetooth”…
… let the phone switch to “Silent” profile or activate the “Backlight” (in case it is disabled).
As you can see in the first screenshot, I didn’t choose “Silent”. That’s actually the main bug I discovered: You cannot use this feature; when selecting “Silent”, “Backlight” is automatically chosen. Obviously only a programming mistake, however an annoying one.
Luckily, there are already “Settings” implemented , although Samir didn’t have a lot of time.
You can set the “Reactivity” and…
… the “Sensitivity”, basically the same options we know from other Samir applications.
However, there are only three predefined settings: “High”, “Normal” and “Low”. Once again a result of the lack of time Samir had for developing “ShakeMe”. Setting these options steplessly will be added in the next version.
To have a confirmation whether “ShakeMe” has detected a shaker, there is the option to ”Play” a “Tone”. You can enable or disable it by setting “Yes”, respectively “No”.
These are all the options which are available in the current “ShakeMe” version.
There is another bug I discovered:
When changing a setting, the change is actually executed, but a part of the options menu remains also after confirming. Should also be fixed!
Basically I am not very impressed by the application yet. The shaker detection is VERY bad: I had to shake my phone for seconds with set ”Normal” option, “High” in contrast is much too sensitive.
That will be fixed for sure with the next version with improved shaking detection and more settings.
The basic idea of “ShakeMe” is great, especially with even more modes which will be added in the future. But actually using the application in “Alpha” state wasn’t fun for me, I am waiting for the next version.
For all of you who didn’t watch it yet, here is a demo video showing “ShakeMe’s” function:
