LEGACY (full) : Great RPG Games ~ 2,35Mb
Legacy already on PocketPC, now for S60v2 and N-Gage , test and work perfect on 6600 !!!!
Legacy, from Hungarian software house Red Shift, is an RPG that breaks no new ground in terms of gameplay and uses all the standard ingredients of dungeons and dragons but STILL manages to be absorbing, compelling and well worth a spin. Why? Tony Newton dons his firelizard armour and boots of endurance to find out...
On loading (all smooth on my now antiquated but treasured iPAQ 3870), Legacy opens with a text and graphics based intro that will be immediately recognisable to anyone who’s ever played an RPG on any platform, ever: nasty bad man with lots of magical powers and unpleasant henchmen has taken over the country/world/planet/galaxy. You are the hero/heroine who is going to select a group of adventurers with a variety of skills and attributes to do battle with his minions and eventually save the country/world etc etc.
So far, not very imaginative, but nicely presented. Here’s what you see when the game opens:
* There’s you in the left hand bottom pane. There are three empty panes to be filled by your fellow adventurers in due course. Notice the green bar underneath your mugshot which indicates your health (hitpoints), and the blue bar which shows your manna. For those new to the RPG jargon, health is what gets eroded when an enemy hits you, and your manna gets sapped every time you cast a spell.
* In the circle is a compass (tap on it to get to a map which gets filled in as you explore). Below this are two squares: the one on the left with crossed swords is the button to tap if you want to fight, and the starry box to the right the one to tap if you want to cast a spell or use a magical item.
Tap on your character’s mugshot and you’ll see something like the following:
* The hand is for transferring items between characters, the green arrow for picking things up, the yellow one for dropping them, the red ‘x’ for exiting that screen back to the game and the floppy disk icon for…well, what do you think?
* The windows above Ketiara (for that is who you are, although which character you start the game with seems to be a random affair in terms of gender and attributes) show the items currently being carried, and these can be selected and deselected by tapping on the item (the difference being that carrying an item is not the same as wearing it or being armed with it). And of course it’s always useful to know how much gold the party has acquired.
* The four icons at the top of this screen cycle through additional information about the character and the quest. It’s worth spending a moment looking at the ‘question mark’ icon which brings up a status screen for that character, as this explains the character’s attributes and development.
