The story revolves around the Hero taking up an assignment to kill a politician, the mission failure, how Hero escapes from the scene, getting into *new* character with an extraordinary twist, living in the new character in all together a different world with lots of fun and frolic by a mischievous girl playing the lead role, police running after him, the drama of the police in their investigation, back home adventures by the new character with old friends, people in the locality, flashbacks and loads of romance by the lead pair and *so called comedy* and what not. Overall mix of many strands to make a thread called "Athadu" a plot with lots of unanswered questions in its completeness. The formula worked well since no one bothered about the completeness, everyone looked at the performances of lead roles, music and the screen play.
