[News] Lara 'sorry' for World Cup exit
Lara 'sorry' for World Cup exit

Brian Lara offered his apologies to the people of the Caribbean after the West Indies lost their Super Eight clash to South Africa to leave them on the brink of World Cup elimination.
The hosts now need a mathematical miracle to qualify for the semi-finals after their fourth loss of the Super Eight stage after they failed to chase down South Africa's mammoth 356 for four.
Ramnaresh Sarwan ensured they would at least salvage some pride with a battling 92, but they fell 67 runs short of their target as they batted out their 50 overs.
Lara told Sky Sports: "We are disappointed and we are really sorry for how we have performed over the World Cup. All we can do is say sorry to our people.
"We tried to prepare to the best of our ability but things didn't work out.
"South Africa gave a tremendous performance and getting 356 was always tough. I can't fault the guys but we didn't come up trumps.
"It is a huge blow, the guys in the dressing room are not in a good mood. There are a lot of sad faces but we have got to pick ourselves up."
The West Indies must still face Bangladesh and England in their remaining matches, but even two victories are unlikely to be enough to take them into the last four.
"There is no semi-final place for us but we still want to host a good tournament," Lara said.
"We have got to show pride and character to come out and perform."
