Thumbs up enjoy part 3

the following precautions should be taken to prevent infection of your cell phone:

1. Accustom yourself to disable bluetooth if you don't use it.

This will not only decrease probability of being infected over bluetooth but it also saves the battery of your cell phone, because bluetooth consumes a lot of batery power.

If you have to use bluetooth, then the minimum you should do is setting the bluetooth to the invisible mode (go to the bluetooth menu and set it to be #non-discoverable# or #hidden#).

2. IF is your bluetooth on and you are receiving file be REALLY careful!

It means - accept via bluetooth ONLY files you are expecting. NEVER accept the files you do not expect.

The specialists often ask: How can anybody get infected if it is necessary to click "Yes" many times? But very good social engineering is involved in this and people who have been infected explain, that the process looks like this:

I got a weird message on the phone, it was requesting a "Yes" or "No" answer. So I clicked "No". But the message popped up again, so I clicked "No" again, but the only result was that the message pop up again. At the end I lost my patience and clicked "Yes".

So, what to do if you are receiving this weird messages over bluetooth again and again?

It is very easy: the Bluetooth technology can usally transfers data only up to 10 meters. So, just walk away and it is very probable that you will get out of the range of the cell phone that is trying to infect you.

The last advice does not work mainly in two cases:

The cell phone that is trying to infect you is walking with you. Because the cell phones have no foots (yet) you need to identify somebody who does (maybe you just met friend who walks with you)

You are target of BlueSniper rifle. Very interesting gun, which lead us to the beginning - accustom yourself to disable Bluetooth if you don't use it.

If you don't obey #1 and #2 rules you might be punished by Cabir (Caribe) or some later versions of it.

3. Never download cell phone applications from file sharing networks

It means - download games, ring tones and other programs only from legal or official Web sites.
For example - some users who downloaded Mosquito game "for free" from file sharing networks are already paing for it.
They didn't obey this rule and were punished by Mquito.

But it is strongly recommended to scan any cell phone application (even the one received from official web site) you downloaded with your antivirus software on your computer. Some of them are able to detect the cell phone viruses. But it very depends on the vendor of antivirus software and on the virus itself.

So, if you want to minimize the risk, just follow the advice in the headline of this paragraph.

4. NEVER install any UNEXPECTED application received by MMS message from ANY senders (including your friends!)

The tricky part of this rule is that you can't trust your friends (or business partners). Why? If their cell phone got infected, which numbers will be the MMS with virus sent? To the numbers in their local address book.

You also (and especially!) can't trust to applications that claims to be "Security update". If it is UNEXPECTED file (even from known sender) delete it! Or check with the sender if he knowingly sent the MMS.

If you don't obey this rule you might be punished by Commwarrior or some later versions of it.

5. Install an antivirus software for cell phones

The best time to do this is before infection. After infection might be too late as is clear from the Fontal.A desription.
