We all know how China is important to all mobile industry players, hence virtually every single major mobile tech company is present there in one form or another.
Now we have Symbian Limited, developer and licensor of the market-leading smartphone operating system - Symbian OS, acquiring the personnel and technology the China-based smartphone application developer - Beijing Genesis Interactive Technology Co. As for the personnel changes, MoGenesis’ CEO Dennis Kung, who previously held two senior positions in Microsoft, is appointed as the new General Manager for Symbian in China to “spearhead Symbian product development in the region.”
Commenting on the acquisition, Symbian’s CEO Nigel Clifford said, “The acquisition will play a key role in Symbian’s global R&D strategy for our world-leading customers. China is one of the fastest growing markets for smartphones in the world and we will leverage our new Chinese resources to increase Symbian OS global product development. Symbian achieved 60% smartphone OS market share in China with 77% year on year growth, according to one analyst (Canalys) in Q207. We intend to continue growing our sales and our presence in this very vibrant market.”
